Binge-eating (sometimes called food addiction or compulsive overeating) is on the rise in North America, and is now only beginning to gain the attention of professionals from the medical, academic and psychological communities.  Recent studies have shown that binge-eating is more prevalent among the North American population than anorexia and bulimia combined.  Because binge-eating is not yet officially seen as an eating disorder, calls have gone out for more research on the topic, and the research community is responding.  This site is intended to provide online links to some of these studies and findings.

The next edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5), to be published by the American Psychiatric Association in 2013, plans to list binge-eating as an eating disorder.
